About Kenneth Cox Construction
What Should You Know About Kenneth Cox Construction?
Here is the short version of about Kenneth Cox Construction: one owner, one crew, one region, since 1988.

- 38 years in business, since 1988
- Over 250 projects completed
- Affordable work, two-year written warranty
Why did Ken start this company?
The first thing to know about Kenneth Cox Construction is why it started. Ken spent eight months watching a family member's contractor destroy a kitchen addition in Augusta, with a big deposit taken up front, deadlines missed over and over, and eventually no contractor showing up.
The house sat half finished with the family living around it. That is the kind of thing you do not forget.
Kenneth Cox Construction started in 1988, built to be the opposite of that. Thirty-eight years and over 250 projects later, the approach has not changed.
Show up when you said you would. Do the work properly, and finish what you started.

How we work
- 01How Do We Price Projects and Communicate?
Ken quotes what he can see and writes an allowance for what he cannot. Older houses hide rot, old wiring and framing nobody would build today, and pretending otherwise just moves the bad news to the middle of the job.
When something turns up, you see it before it is priced, and it goes in a written change order. No verbal add-ons and no surprises on the final invoice.
- 02Our Work in Older Maine Buildings
The work we are known for is the work in existing buildings:
- Foundation and sill repair on farmhouses from the 1800s
- Camps built for July, converted to hold heat in January
- Kitchens and baths in rooms where no two walls agree
We are comfortable in old buildings. That is most of the housing stock here, and it is the work that separates builders.
- 03How Do We Schedule and Finish Construction Work?
We start when we said we would start, and the crew that starts your job is the crew that finishes it. We are not running four sites at once and borrowing people back and forth between them.
At the end we walk the job with you and write the punch list down instead of remembering it. The two-year written warranty starts the day you accept the work, and it covers our labor on every project.
Why Should You Choose Kenneth Cox Construction?
BBB accredited.
That is a real, checkable accreditation, and you can verify it through the Better Business Bureau rather than taking our word for it.
A two-year written workmanship warranty.
Two years on our labor, on every project, in writing, sitting on top of whatever the manufacturer covers.
Over 250 projects completed.
Every one of them across this region, since 1988.
Maine issues no state credential for general contractors, so anyone in this trade telling you they hold one is describing something that does not exist. What we have instead is a long record in a small region where reputation travels fast.
Who Is on Our Team?
Two people run every project here, and both of them are people you will actually meet.

Kenneth Cox,founder and owner
Ken has owned and run the company since 1988. He is on the job, he sets the schedule, and he is the person you call when something is not right.

Seth L.,project manager and estimator
Seth handles estimating and day-to-day project management. Between the two of them, every project is managed directly rather than handed to whichever crew is free that week.
That is the whole pitch. Plenty of companies this size hand you off after the sale, and we have never worked that way.
How Are We Involved in the Community?
Ken coaches kids in this area, wrestling, basketball, soccer and football, including through the Waldo County YMCA youth sports programs.
Kenneth Cox Construction works concessions and helps with fundraising for the Belfast district schools, for the Town of Searsmont, and for the Searsmont volunteer fire department.
Searsmont is inside that school district and it is where the shop sits. Supporting the district and the town is not outreach for us, it is the place we live.

What Do Our Construction Clients Say?
The compliment we get most often is not about the framing or the tile. It is that the crew was easy to have in the house and that the job went the way it was described.
Every review we have is printed in full on the reviews page, unedited. Ask us for references in your town and we will give you names and numbers.

Is Kenneth Cox Construction a Fit for Your Project?
The first visit costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Ken will look at the project, tell you plainly what it involves, and tell you if it is not worth doing.
Call 207-386-9235 or ask for an estimate. You can also read about what we build or where we work.
We are based at 128 New England Road in Searsmont and we work across twenty towns in MidCoast and Central Maine. Ken has run the company for thirty-eight years.

What Construction Projects Do We Take On?
Whole houses from the site work up, and single rooms in houses built long before anyone thought about square corners.
Most of what we do is remodeling, kitchens, bathrooms, decks, garages, siding and roofing, with custom homes running alongside it. We are a residential builder and we stay in that lane.
